What Does The Bible Say About
Homosexuality

Homosexuality has become a very hot, much-debated topic during the last 25 years, as more and more people choose to make it known that they are engaging in sexual activity and relationships with people of the same sex.

Large groups have stepped up to share their opinions on what is right and what is not. Each group has their opinion, but what does God's Word say about it? That is, after all, what really matters.

So let's set aside the rhetoric, the clichés, the scientific data, the psychological theories, etc., and dive into what God says about it, in black and white.

In researching this topic, it's evident right away that there is Biblical information on the topic from beginning to end. It's not a topic that was left out or talked about very little. It is discussed quite a bit from start to finish.

In Leviticus, God states very plainly and clearly that men are not to "lie with a male as with a woman". It is called an abomination.

(Leviticus 18:22 NKJV) 'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Let's see what that word, "abomination", means.

According to Webster's dictionary, something viewed as an abomination means that it is viewed with disgust or hatred.

abom•i•na•tion: something that causes disgust or hatred

So it's pretty plain to see that God views homosexuality (whether male or female) with disgust and hatred. This in itself should be enough to tell people that it's wrong

But some might argue that this scripture comes from the Old Testament, before Grace was applied. They might say that this is an outdated text, used during the period of the Mosaic Law, before Jesus died for our sins.

To that, I would personally say that Jesus coming and dying for our sins doesn't give us the right to willfully sin or commit greater sins, just because we now live under grace or because the blood of Jesus can wash our sins away.

But let's take a look at the New Testament to see if things changed after Jesus died for us... after God's grace had been bestowed upon the earth.

Here's a passage from Romans:

(Romans 1:26-27 NKJV) For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. {27} Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

These verses clearly portray homosexuality (along with other sexual sins) as being unnatural and vile (morally despicable or abhorrent). This is just one of so very many verses or groups of verses that speak of homosexuality in a very negative, sinful way.

But let's also take a look at some of the things we're hearing today, even in the church. In addition to so many unbelievers speaking out in favor of homosexuality, or what they like to call alternative lifestyles, a fair number of Christians are also falling prey to this school of thought.

Some believers are taking scriptures out of context and/or interjecting their own opinions and propagating a message that says monogamous homosexual relationships are acceptable in God's eyes, but lustful same-sex relationships are not OK.

First of all, this is self-contradicting. Either homosexuality is wrong or it's not. Trying to break it down into two different categories is seriously grasping for something to hold onto in justifying your argument. But let's look past the grasping and try to give the benefit of the doubt for a moment.

Let's look at the fact that homosexuality is not singled out here as its own unique kind of sin. It's in amongst many other sins that God says will keep people from entering the Kingdom of God. Included in these would be fornicators, drunkards, thieves and so many more.

None of these other sins are broken into two different types or two categories, so why should homosexuality be any different? The fact of the matter is that these are all sins, they are all wrong and they will all keep us out of heaven if they go unchecked in our lives.

(1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, {10} nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Now, if God was truly looking at same-sex relationships using two different measuring rods, that would, first of all, make Him a hypocrite. For Him to say that something is wrong and then go on to say that it is only wrong if it is done with multiple partners doesn't line up with what He said to begin with; that homosexuality is an abomination.

Let's go way back to the beginning and look at something that should shed more light on this topic.

(Genesis 1:27 NKJV) So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God made them male and female. This one, short phrase speaks volumes when it comes to defining human sexuality. God purposely made us male and female. Now, the proponents of same-sex relationships might still be saying "so what?".

So let's dive even a little deeper. Let's take a look at our physical anatomy. Let me forewarn you that this might get a little uncomfortable for people who are squeamish about discussing these kinds of things, but bear with me, because this is not meant to be lewd or crude

Think about how we were created. Men and women have some anatomy in common and some that is unique. Let's look at what's unique, because it will help us better understand the homosexuality question without ever getting into a debate about how someone feels about it or what their opinion is on it.

OK.. down to the nitty gritty!

First, lets' take a look at the male anatomy. God designed males with a penis, a scrotum and two testicles. I told you we were going to get detailed!

The penis serves two purposes in the male. First, to urinate and second, to ejaculate/secrete semen/sperm. Now let's look even more closely, at how God designed the penis.

The human penis has a very specific shape to it. It has a head with a very defined shape and the shaft of the penis is curved. The head is designed for a specific purpose and that curve is for a reason.

The head of the human penis is designed to stimulate the female vagina and other parts of the female genital area, creating excitement and leading to a climax or orgasm. We don't need to get into the hows or whys of this. It's just a fact.

As for the curve of the penis, this is designed to touch certain areas inside of the woman's vaginal area and stimulate it, again leading to sexual arousal and ultimately, orgasm.

So, are you blushing yet?

Now, let's discuss the female anatomy, but specifically their sexual anatomy.

Females are designed with their own unique genital parts and components, and they are all there to be compatible with the human male penis.

God created women with a clitoris. The human clitoris has more nerve endings in it than any other part of the body! This was done to allow a woman to be stimulated in a sexual, sensual, pleasurable way.

Beyond this, though, women also have certain areas inside of their vaginal area that are stimulated by the male penis as it touches them or rubs against them repeatedly.

If the male's penis was shaped differently, not having that specific curve or the shape of the head the way it is, it would not touch or rub against those specific areas of the woman's vaginal area and would not lead to stimulation/orgasm for the woman.

Additionally, the male penis and the female vagina (and accompanying internal sexual organs) work together perfectly to propagate human life, creating babies from microscopic elements known as eggs and sperm.

This might all seem pretty embarrassing to talk about, but it needs to be discussed in order to break down some myths that people believe when it comes to sexuality.

Now let's take it a step further, if you'll allow us to.

What happens when you put two people of the same sex together?

First, if we put two women together, they have no sexual organs to penetrate each other with. They have to use other body parts (or sex toys) to stimulate each other. Thus the reason for God speaking of women exchanging their natural use for what is against nature.

Furthermore, two females cannot bring new life into this world through their sexual actions or encounters. It's physically impossible to without modern techniques such as invitro fertilization. Even this method, though, still requires a male to donate sperm.

Two females together makes it physically impossible to create new life or stimulate each other to orgasm without the use of body parts that were meant for other purposes or the use of sexual aids (sex toys).

Now let's look at the scenario with two males. Obviously, in this case we have two penises and no vagina. We're already up against losing odds. No new life can be propagated between two males, even with modern science or modern medicine. It's physically impossible, no matter how we look at it.

But males have tried to create alternative ways of giving each other pleasure by engaging in anal sex (sodomy). One male plays the part of the female and allows the other male to penetrate his anus with his penis, leading to orgasm on the part of the penetrator.

While this does allow stimulation and orgasm for the penetrator, the male being penetrated has no internal means of pleasure in their rectal organs. We were not designed that way (regardless of being male or female). Additionally, semen secreted into the male lower intestine will never encounter an egg waiting to be fertilized.

From a health perspective, anal intercourse is risky, at best. The rectum is designed to be an "exit" for releasing human waste. This waste is loaded with bacterial microorganisms that can spread infection to other areas of the body.

In the case of repeated anal intercourse, a person's rectum can become damaged, stretched, torn, etc., leading to hemorrhoids, scarring, loss of control of the anal sphincter muscle, anal warts or anal cancer.

Looking at these facts, its pretty easy to see that the parts of a male were meant to compliment the parts of a female. It's just plain biological common sense that outweighs any argument in favor of same-sex relationships, even when leaving God completely out of it, if one would choose to do so.

Opposites Attract

Now some may be asking about how to deal with being attracted to people of the same sex. This is, after all, one of the biggest problems leading to same sex relationships.

Same sex attractions are a temptation. They are not the norm. It is not so much that we are born to be attracted to the same sex. Somewhere along the line, as we were growing up, we were probably exposed to something or someone that imparted this into us. Most times it isn't something done intentionally. And most times you, the victim, aren't even aware that it has happened. But somewhere along the way you begin to realize that you're attracted to the same sex instead of the opposite sex.

The good news is that it doesn't have to stay that way. There is deliverance from this situation. It isn't necessarily easy or fast, but it can be remedied.

And let's be very, very clear about something here. None of what is written above is written to condemn anyone. It is written to bring truth and light into a dark place and bring freedom to those who struggle with same sex attractions.

It is not a sin to struggle with temptation, including same sex attractions. It is a sin to give in to that temptation. So many people nowadays speak out in favor of homosexuality and make it seem OK, trying to appease their own conscience. But the truth is that it is not normal or morally right.

Someone speaking out in favor of something doesn't make it right. God's word is final and is what we will all be judged by when we stand before Him, whether we like it or not

Now please hear this! You can be delivered from homosexual desires and behaviors. Just as you did not start your life as a homosexual, you don't have to live your life out as a homosexual.

Jesus died to set us free from ALL sin, including same sex attractions and the temptations of homosexuality. As mentioned earlier, it isn't necessarily an easy thing to follow through with, but it can happen if you want it to.

The key here is wanting to be free of that thing that has gripped you and led you into the homosexual lifestyle.

(Romans 3:10 NKJV) As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;

We all have sins in our life. Not a single one of us is perfect and we never will be. Your sins are what you struggle with giving in to. Someone else's sins might be different. But we all have specific things that we struggle with.

For some it might be sexual sins, for others it might be pride, selfishness, lying, stealing and more. Sin is sin, regardless of who it is or what it is. We would never state that homosexuality is worse than another sin, but the Bible does have it grouped with those sins that can keep us out of God's kingdom. And that's pretty serious for anyone.

So if you struggle with homosexuality or same sex attractions, realize that you're not alone, that you don't have to stay immersed in it and that there is hope for you!

Get before God and admit your problems before Him. He knows them already anyway, so He won't be shocked! He just wants to hear you admit them so He will know that you're ready to get help.

Getting free starts with admitting that we're struggling and that we want to be free. Next, we need to admit that we are in a sinful state... admit that we are broken and only God can fix us.

Sometimes we simply need to fall on our face before God and cry out to Him. This can be a tremendous starting point for deliverance. We need to ask Him to forgive us and then we need to make a deliberate effort to turn and walk away from those things that tempt us.

Check out this verse below, showing us that Paul addresses the people of the Corinthian church as being former fornicators, idolaters and yes.. even homosexuals. This one verse alone shows that deliverance is available and that people can be set free from these things through the blood of Jesus Christ.

(1 Corinthians 6:11 NKJV) And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

So if you're reading this and you're one of the millions who struggle with same sex attractions, make a decision today to do something to get help. Seek counsel from godly individuals that you trust. This isn't something to be taken lightly and brushed off, or to share with a lot of people. Some people, especially those you would call your friends, might seem like good candidates for confiding in, but only do so if you know you can trust them 100%.
